Corfu Island

Corfu is one of the Ionian Islands and it's situated in the north-west of Greece opposite Epirus. It's the northernmost island in the Ionian Sea and one of the most beautiful in the whole Mediterranean Sea.

It has an oblong shape stretching from NW to SE; its greatest length is 33 miles and its greatest width is 15 miles.

Corfu, has excellent beaches, exquisite scenery and the kind of charm and tradition you associate with the best of Greece.
The island is like a small paradise on earth.
Its crystal waters, picturesque bays, the sandy or rocky beaches and the lush vegetation entice you to wander further.
Corfu offers every form of relaxation, entertainment and enjoyment from water sports to cruises, horse riding to sightseeing. 

There are boat trips, good walks and adventure tours 
to try as well as numerous places of historical interest to visit.

You will find ancient Greek and Roman remains, old churches, museums, medieval villages and of course the Venetian forts and streets of Corfu Town are justly famous.
You can see a lot of old buildings and relics of the Venetian occupation and of subsequent eras.

You can visit the Old Frourion and the Neon Frourion; the rows of the Liston's mansions (which are ascribed to the French); the Palace of St. Michael and St. George, the Ionian Parliament (which are ascribed to the English) or the Theatre of San Jacomo (the today's townhall) going back to the years of the Venetian occupation.

You should also visit the hill of Analipsis and Paleopolis and see the numerous ancient findings.
Achilleion the palace of Elizabeth, ie empress of Austria, built in Gastouri in 1890 is a worth mentioning building for its architectural style as well as for its statues and frescos.
