Paxi, also known as Paxos, is the smallest of the Ionian group of islands off the west coast of Greece. It's about 8m long and 2m wide. The west coast is dominated by huge white chalk cliffs. Tiny villages, tiny beaches and tiny hills - it is an island in miniature. The bane of Paxi is its popularity with day trippers. Boats disgorge them in droves. With just three resorts expect crowded tavernas and higher than average prices. Paxos is a quiet haven and popular with ramblers. The main resort of Gaios has discos and bars. Restorts at Loggos and Lakkas are much quieter. It has an influx of Italian visitors in August.
Quick Paxos facts: Size: 40sq km. Population: 2,500 Season: July - September. Getting there: Ferries and jetfoils daily to Kerkyra and mainland Parga and Igoumenitsa. High-speed ferries from Bari and Brindisi in Italy. A seaplane service operates from Corfu town in the summer.

Loggos is the smallest of the three main villages on Paxos, an enchanting, graceful old fishing port on the northeast coast. With its pastel-shaded buildings huddled around the harbour, it combines relative remoteness with an adequate range of facilities, providing an idyllic centre for holidays throughout the season.

During the day, the brightly coloured boats in the harbour offer a chance to explore the bays and beaches of the coast and their clean, crystalline waters. In the evenings, visitors and locals gather in the restaurants of the main square, enjoying food, wine and conversation late into the summer nights.
